Transylvania University President Williams becomes Dracula for the night

Happy Halloween from R. Owen Williams, president of Transylvania University, where they have fun with their name but are serious about learning.

In Lexington, Ky., Transylvania University President R. Owen Williams transformed into Count Dracula for the night on Halloween. The private liberal arts college was founded in 1780, when it became the 16th college in the United States. “Transylvania” is Latin for across the woods, an appropriate description of Kentucky in the late 1700s. It also was the name of a land company that tried unsuccessfully to become a state in what was then part of Virginia.
