Northern Kentucky University will launch an emergency notification system this spring that will contact members of the campus community via voice, text and electronic mail messaging in the event of an emergency or campus closing. The new service is the result of a comprehensive emergency preparedness review the university undertook in the wake of the shootings at Virginia Tech last year. The communication service will be activated when NKU determines that a serious threat exists and the campus community must take immediate action to remain safe and secure. The system will also be used to announce any unscheduled university closings or cancellation of classes due to severe weather. The University of Kentucky has also implemented similar service.
