Aimed at developing new employees as CNC technicians
FLORENCE, Ky. (March 5, 2013) —Mazak Corp. has been awarded $224,050 in funds from KY WINS to provide skill upgrades for newly hired employees at its Florence manufacturing facility. Gateway Community and Technical College will conduct the training, which is aimed at developing new employees as CNC technicians, at its Boone Campus.
“Gateway helps us sharpen our competitive edge by working with us to provide customized skill upgrades to our workforce,” said Mike Vogt, vice president of human resources and general affairs at MazakUSA. “We rely on Gateway to help us keep our current workforce up to date and as a source of well-trained new employees.”
“We’re pleased to be able to help Mazak, one of our primary business partners, access KY WINS funds to assist the company in maintaining its competitive edge in a global marketplace,” said Angie Taylor, Gateway vice president of Workforce Solutions and innovations. “Workforce development is high on our list of priorities, and being able to provide access to KY WINS funding enables us to fulfill that responsibility.”
Gateway provides industry partners with access to more than $1 million a year in KY WINS funds. KY WINS, the Kentucky Workforce Investment Network System, provides funding to Kentucky companies to assist with the cost of workforce training and assessment services. KY WINS funds are distributed on a project basis and require a company cash match of 35 percent.
Kentucky companies with training needs who are interested in applying for KY WINS funding for skill upgrades can contact Gateway’s Workforce Solutions Division at 859-442-1170.
Gateway offers CNC and other types of training for advanced manufacturing jobs to individuals through its academic programs. New classes begin March 18.
