Groundbreaking ceremony for Louisville’s Downtown Crossing bridge is 5 p.m. June 18

A community groundbreaking for the Downtown Crossing of the Ohio River Bridges Project is set for 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18. In a news release about the event, Gov. Steve Beshear invites everyone interested to come be part of the long-awaited history-making ceremonies.

Children and families will have a chance to participate in history by breaking ground on a large sand pile near the construction site. This “community groundbreaking” will be at the Lincoln Memorial Lot in Waterfront Park.

The ceremony begins shortly after 5 p.m. Gov. Beshear will signal the start of construction at 5:30 p.m. with the raising of the flags on a large crane that will help build the Downtown Crossing bridge.
