This record visitation represents a 170 percent increase over the same period in 2012.  The Lexington Visitors Center moved to a temporary location inside Victorian Square in May of 2012 and into the permanent location in October of 2012.

“We have seen a tremendous increase in traffic at our new location, both from leisure travelers and meetings and conventions attendees,” said Julie Schickel, Lexington Visitors Center manager. “The more visible location and the high level of foot traffic at our new location yielded a record 10,266 visitors in just six months, which is nothing short of remarkable.”

The Lexington Visitors Center includes 1,500 s.f. of interactive displays and informational kiosks designed to intrigue and inspire visitors to explore the rich heritage of Lexington and the Bluegrass Region.  Split into five main areas, the Visitors Center features information on horse attractions, Bourbons of the Bluegrass, historic attractions, ‘Explore My Lex,’ dedicated to art, music, and cultural events, and Beyond Grits, an area devoted to regional cuisine, unique restaurants, and our growing wineries and ever evolving craft brewery movement.

“Success in the hospitality industry can be achieved with just two of three key elements; great product, great people, and great location. We are extremely fortunate to have all three,” said Jim Browder, president Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau/
