LBAR poll: Fayette County taxpayers don’t want to pay for Rupp Arena renovations

Nearly 70 percent oppose tax-dollars going to Rupp Arena renovations

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 17, 2014) — Nearly 70 percent of likely Fayette County voters don’t agree with taxpayer-funded renovations to Rupp Arena, according to a poll by the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of Realtors. While 23 percent said they approve of renovations to Rupp Arena, 49 percent said they were strongly opposed to it.

The poll found that 36 percent of respondents feel that creating jobs and strengthening the economy are the biggest issues local leaders need to address. Increasing education standards  received 24 percent of votes, reducing crime and promoting public safety 18 percent and decreasing traffic congestion and improving roads 11 percent.

Among likely voters, 44 percent disapprove of the Fayette County School Board’s recent performance, while only 25 percent approve. Among likely voters with children in the home, the Fayette County School board received an even higher disapproval at 46 percent.

The study was conducted through a telephone survey to 402 general election voters.
