UK using Lynn Imaging construction information management software

Tool allows UK officials to keep $800 million in campus projects up to date on design and construction costs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 20, 2014) – University of Kentucky officials are using a new digital construction information management tool to manage their more than 30 active construction projects totaling an estimated $800 million.

The web-based eCommunication system designed by Lynn Imaging was adopted as the university is undertaking the largest flurry of campus construction in the school’s history. Among the projects are major expansion and upgrading of the Student Center, a modernization to Commonwealth Stadium, a state-of-the-art science classroom and labs facility and a continuation of further fit-up of the new University Patient Care Facility.

The University of Kentucky Capital Projects Management Division partnered with Lynn Imaging to utilize eCommunication software effective April 3. UK successfully transitioned existing project data from an existing system to the eCommunication system as of early June.

“The economy has changed how the construction industry does business,” said Michael Carter, president of Lynn Imaging, a Lexington-based construction information management company with offices in Frankfort and Louisville. “The challenge has been to continue to build but find new ways to reduce costs. eCommunication technology was developed in response to this challenge, and it manages project documentation, optimizes workflow processes and accountability, manages change orders and reduces costs.”

eCommunication uses permissions-based Internet access for all project team members, regardless of project scale, providing continuous access to always-current construction documents.

“Streamlining construction documentation enables project teams to maintain communication while meeting their deadlines and staying within budget,” Carter said. “Tracking all of this digitally gives complete and readily available project closeout upon completion.”
