Hospitality employees to be trained about communities

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 10, 2014) — In an effort to enhance visitors’ experiences and encourage repeat visitation, VisitLEX is launching The Destination Institute to train residents and front line employees in the hospitality industry about the entertainment, attractions, events and dining opportunities the community has to offer.

VisitLex hopes to increase the experiences of tourists in Kentucky.
VisitLex hopes to increase the experiences of tourists in Kentucky by training residents and employees to know about all the possibilities in their community.

“We often forget to tout our great attractions and assets to Central Kentucky residents, who can be effective ambassadors for our community,” said Julie Schickel, program manager for The Destination Institute. “The Destination Institute is designed to cultivate a well-informed hospitality community that is familiar with all the unique opportunities at their doorstep and to generate excitement.”

The Institute programming will include:

  • The Hospitality Host Committee, which will be comprised of industry partners and community members interested in positively impacting the experience of visitors. The Hospitality Hosts will help with industry and community outreach efforts, volunteer activities, and TDI programming and events. They will have the opportunity to attend educational sessions and signature events on a regular basis throughout the year that provide opportunities to visit the attractions, restaurants and events that are key to the visitor experience.
  • TDI Educational Sessions will be held three to four times per year are available to the general public as well. They will focus on unique aspects of the community and will include expert panelists that will share behind-the-scenes and in-depth information on central Kentucky’s signature tourism industries. The sessions also will be available online.
  • A monthly newsletter and website updates will provide the latest news on the program, volunteer opportunities and event information as well as alert interested volunteers on when to apply for the Hospitality Host Committee.
