Course begins Sept. 12
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Sept. 12, 2014) — Western Kentucky University is offering a free online course in Origins and Progression of Sports in America.
The course, which has unlimited spots, runs from Sept. 12 to Nov. 1.
Instruction will center on the role sports played in early America, as well as popular sports, breaking barriers, Olympics and notable figures. Participants also discuss what makes a sport a sport.
Professor Dr. Randy Deere said students will have access to historical videos, numerous articles and manuscripts. Students will also benefit from active participation and interaction with fellow students and faculty.
“Sport plays such an important role in American society, and it’s our hope that this MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) will educate and entertain those interested in sport history,” Deere said.
