Training program to benefit women, minority businesses

Application deadline is Oct. 1

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 16, 2014) — The Lexington Minority and Women Business Training Program, which will begin Oct. 15 and run for six weeks, will include sessions on managing your finances; strategic planning; marketing; hiring; managing employees; federal, state and local tax requirements; and government contracting.

lexington-minority-women-business-trainingThe training program is an outgrowth of the Lexington Minority and Women Contractor Training Program conducted by the Kentucky Small Business Development Center and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, said Marilyn Clark, minority business enterprise liaison for the LFUCG.

The cost for the program is $50. To qualify, participants must have a business that is 51 percent owned by women or minorities.

Each participant who successfully completes the program will be awarded a Certificate of Completion through UK’s Small Business Development Center at a graduation luncheon on Nov. 19. The application deadline is Oct. 1.
