Lexington health department offering free drive-thru flu shots

Event is from 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 9

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2014) — The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will be administering free flu shots during a drive-thru event from 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 9 at Imani Family Life Center, 1555 Georgetown Road.

Vaccination protection influenza“An annual flu shot is the best way to fight the flu and stay safe during the fall and winter months,” said Kevin Hall, LFCHD spokesman. “By hosting a drive-thru event, we can give up as many as 2,000 shots that afternoon, which not only protects Lexington residents, it also allows us to test our emergency preparedness skills by giving several shots in a short time span.”

The seasonal flu shot is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older. Last year, Lexington had 109 confirmed cases of the flu. The health department provided more than 3,100 flu vaccinations throughout the season and 1,900 shots at its free clinic.

Flu shots will also be available beginning Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Public Health Clinic North at 805A Newtown Circle. No appointment is necessary. Cost is $30. Medicaid/Medicare, cash, checks, credit cards and some insurances will be accepted.
