Louisville coalition to provide foot washing for homeless

Event scheduled for Oct. 8

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 30, 2014) — The Coalition for the Homeless will provide foot washing services to the homeless during the 2014 Project Homeless Connect/VA Stand Down event scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Salvation Army at 911 S. Brook Street.

homelessIn addition to foot washing, participants can have their feet examined by a local physician or nurse and get a new pair of socks.

The event also provides access to over 80 community services including health screenings, housing applications, access to IDs, clothing, food and job training. TARC buses will provide access throughout the day from emergency shelters to the event site.

The latest numbers from the 2014 Homeless Census indicate that approximately 8,500 individuals were homeless at some point in Louisville last year. Last year the event served more than 550 people.
