Gov. Beshear appoints David Allen Barber Supreme Court justice

Will represent 7th Supreme Court District in Eastern Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 5, 2015) – Gov. Steve Beshear on Wednesday appointed David Allen Barber as a justice of the Supreme Court of Kentucky.

Barber, of Prestonsburg, is a policy and legal adviser in House Speaker Greg Stumbo’s legislative office and a partner in the law firm of Richardson, Barber & Williamson in Owingsville.

Barber served as a Kentucky Court of Appeals judge from 2000 to 2007. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.

The appointment fills a vacancy in the office of justice for the 7th Supreme Court District of Kentucky. Barber replaces former Justice Will T. Scott, who resigned to run for governor. Barber will serve until the results of the November election are certified.

The 7th Supreme Court District is Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Elliott, Floyd, Greenup, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Powell, Rowan and Wolfe counties.
