Gov. Beshear signs bill that updates laws for nonprofits

Also signs bill on domestic violence

kentucky_seal_resized2FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 1, 2015) — Gov. Steve Beshear today signed two bills which update laws for nonprofit organizations and which provide additional protections for victims of domestic violence.

House Bill 440 brings Kentucky law in line with more than 15 other states by updating rules for informal nonprofit entities such as Little League teams and local fundraising efforts. The bill allows these nonprofits to make a filing with the Secretary of State, affording participants limited liability from debts and obligations of the organization.

House Bill 316 allows victims of domestic violence to have their personal information redacted from publicly available voter registration records. This program is maintained by the Secretary of State’s office. The bill creates a funding mechanism to support the confidential address protection program.
