Local officials to also receive awards
FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 22, 2015) — Gov. Steve Beshear on Thursday will be presented with the Lee T. Todd, Jr. Smoke-free Hero Award by the Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy at the KCSP annual conference.
Beshear is being honored for adopting an executive order to eliminate tobacco use inside and outside state facilities and vehicles. In addition, KCSP will distribute several awards honoring smoke-free communities, smoke-free advocates and tobacco-free campuses across Kentucky.
The Smoke-free Hero Award recipient is selected for courage, leadership, perseverance and a continuous commitment to smoke-free environments in the face of adversity.
Other awards include:
- The Tobacco-free Campus Award recognizing exceptional leadership and collaborative efforts in promoting a healthy campus environment by implementing a 100 percent tobacco-free campus policy;
- The Legal Counsel Smoke-free Support Award recognizing outstanding smoke-free legal service and continuous contributions to smoke-free environments, which give life back to communities in a way that honors the memory, gentle spirit and unwavering work ethic shown by Brian Early Mattone;
- The Advocate of the Year recognizing excellence in promoting secondhand smoke education and smoke-free policy;
- The Smoke-free Excellence Award for local governments showing exceptional leadership and collaborative efforts in protecting the health of their communities by enacting comprehensive smoke-free workplace ordinances; and
- The Smoke-free Endeavor Award for local governments taking a step toward promoting the health of the community by enacting a partial smoke-free ordinance.
