Purple People Bridge hotel project stalled

Newport, Ky. – A development proposal to build a $100 million railroad-themed hotel and restaurant complex on the bridge linking Newport, Ky., with Cincinnati (referred to as the Purple People Bridge) is unlikely given the lack of parking on the pedestrian bridge, according to an article by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The article says the bridge’s owner, The Newport Southbank Bridge Co., and the developer, DW Real Estate Holdings, will instead “look to other sources of income to keep the bridge in good shape.”

The 143-year bridge closed to vehicular traffic in 2002.
