Appointment effective Aug. 25

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2015) — Seth W. Hancock, longtime member of the Keeneland Board of Directors, was appointed a Keeneland trustee effective Aug. 25, to replace retiring trustee Louis Lee Haggin III.

Haggin became a member of the board in 1971 and a trustee in 1980. Haggin’s grandfather, Hal Price Headley, was Keeneland’s co-founder and first president. Haggin’s father, Louis Lee Haggin II, became Keeneland’s second president in 1940.

Hancock has served as president of iconic Claiborne Farm in Paris, has trained, bred, raced, bought and sold numerous Eclipse Award and Graded Stakes winners. He became Claiborne Farm’s president at of 23, following the death of his father, Arthur B. “Bull” Hancock Jr., then president, in 1972.

“There is no place like Keeneland,” Hancock said. “Their commitment to racing and sales have earned the support and dedication of horsemen across the world. Being chosen as a trustee is a great honor, as the respect I have for Keeneland spans a lifetime.”

William S. Farish and William M. Lear Jr. also serve as Keeneland trustees.
