Businessman named to Lexington Urban County Council 12th District; replaces late Lane Report publisher Ed Lane

Ed Lane had held position since 2005

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2015) — Lexington Mayor Jim Gray today named local businessman Russ Hensley the new councilmember for the 12th District. Hensley replaces Lane Report publisher Ed Lane, who held the position from 2005 until his passing on Aug. 2.

“Since 2005, the voters of the 12th District have elected a businessman to represent them on the Urban County Council, and Russ, with his support of fiscal responsibility and his belief in the importance of seizing economic development opportunity and growing business organically, will continue in and build upon that role,” Gray said.

Hensley is part-owner and co-founder of Hensley/Elam, an information technology services company. He also is a partner in Shatterbox, a design and branding company, and asiGuardian, an off-site data backup service provider.

“I am committed to bring the level of service and dedication to the City of Lexington, and specifically to this council, that I have brought to hundreds of Lexington businesses for nearly two decades,” Hensley said. “I feel the need to return the investment in the community that has let me help their business grow and thrive.”

Outside of work, Hensley volunteers with the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary / Civil Air Patrol as a search and rescue pilot. He worked with the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management during the ice storm of 2009, and has coordinated multiple missing person, aircraft and severe weather damage assessment missions through the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.

A native of London, Hensley moved to Lexington in 1995 to attend the University of Kentucky. Hensley and his wife, Vicki, have three sons, Zach, Carter and Benjamin.
