College football kicks off tonight

EKU, WKU, Murray State, Kentucky Wesleyan in action

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 3, 2015) — College football is back and several Kentucky schools will be in action on opening night.

rp_primary_curry0913Eastern Kentucky University hosts Valparaiso at 7 p.m. EKU is No. 14 in the Sporting News preseason poll and No. 17 in the FCS Coaches Poll and the STATS FCS Top-25 preseason poll.

WKU opens the season tonight at 7 (central time) at Vanderbilt. WKU is 0-3 all-time against the Commodores.

Quarterback Brandon Doughty is the nation’s leading returner in passing yards (4,830) and touchdowns (49). Doughty, the 2014 C-USA Most Valuable Player, was granted a sixth year of eligiblity for injuries suffered across the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Last season, WKU became the first program in NCAA history with a 4,500 yard passer and 1,500 yard rusher. They were also the first program in 17 years to break their league’s single-game passing (Doughty, 593, at Middle Tennessee) and rushing record (Allen, 345, vs. Army) in the same season (Kent State, MAC, 1997).

The game will be on television on the SEC Network and on radio on the IMG Sports Network.

In an in-state battle Murray State will host Kentucky Wesleyan at 6 p.m. local time.

Murray has won all three meetings between the two teams. The game will be the first for new Murray head coach Mitch Stewart.
