Covington, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Chapter of the Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (KY FAME), Gateway Community & Technical College (Gateway) and Northern Kentucky Tri-ED announced today the launch of the Passport to Manufacturing, a new series of recruiting events designed to attract high school students to the advanced manufacturing industry. October is designated National Manufacturing Month.
High school students and their parents from Northern Kentucky are encouraged to visit five of Northern Kentucky’s leading manufacturers – Bosch, Linamar, Safran, Steinert and Steinkamp – for open houses and tours on Oct. 14 from 4 – 7 p.m. A passport will be available at all five locations.
NKY FAME will hold an open house at Gateway showcasing the Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program on October 21 from 4 – 7 p.m. Students enrolled in the AMT program, which began in August, and NKY FAME manufacturers will be available for questions and answers. In addition, a tour of Gateway will be held.
Students who participate in the NKY FAME open house at Gateway will be eligible to win many prizes, including a laptop, and gain a better understanding of education opportunities and careers in manufacturing available in Northern Kentucky.
“The Passport to Manufacturing events are the official kick-off to recruiting for the 2016 Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) class. From the company tours led by current AMT students, to the open house at Gateway, these events are an excellent opportunity for students and their parents to see first-hand what life as an AMT student looks like,” said Michelle Flick, apprenticeship coordinator, Gateway Community & Technical College. “We hope they will come out and take advantage of this insider look into manufacturing.”
“We want high school students and parents in Northern Kentucky to understand the benefits of the AMT program and the types of jobs available in manufacturing,” said Mike Hirsh, chapter president of NKY FAME and vice president, Bosch. “Manufacturers have a high demand for new employees and we are highlighting our workplaces, great benefits and high-paying careers available to students.”
The Northern Kentucky FAME Chapter is a collection of companies, allied organizations and education institutions focused on attracting veterans and high school students to the manufacturing workforce. Students who complete the AMT Program at will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree from Gateway and obtain the foundation to be skilled manufacturing technicians in Northern Kentucky.
