Fifth Third Bank raises $5 million for Stand Up To Cancer

Campaign continues through Oct. 17

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 13, 2015) — Fifth Third Bank has raised $5 million for Stand Up To Cancer. As part of the campaign, which launched July 27 and runs through Oct. 17, Fifth Third gives customers $150 and gives $150 to SU2C when customers open a new Essential Checking Account with direct deposit and make three online bill payments.

standFifth Third Bank also encourages people to share stories on social media of how they fight cancer. Fifth Third is donating $1 to SU2C when people share eligible posts using the #howifight hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Vine, up to $100,000 during the campaign. So far, more than 30,000 stories have been shared.

“We’ve been so heartened to see all the ways our community fights cancer,” said Maria Veltre, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Fifth Third Bank. “With cancer impacting so many, we wanted to see how the Bank could help fight. We’re so proud to have proven that we can make a difference with the help of our customers, employees and members of our communities.”

One in two men and one in three women will be directly affected by cancer in our lifetime, according to statistics collected by the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results program at the National Cancer Institute.  Stand Up To Cancer has funded more than 150 clinical trials, enrolling more than 5,200 patients.

Stand Up To Cancer, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is a breakthrough initiative that raises funds to accelerate innovative cancer research, enabling scientific collaboration in order to get new therapies to patients quickly.

Fifth Third began working with SU2C in 2013 when the Bank introduced its Fifth Third SU2C debit and credit cards, which raise funds to support SU2C research through every qualifying purchase made using those cards. Fifth Third Bank is the only card issuer to offer the SU2C payment cards.
