State soccer, volleyball champions to be crowned this weekend

Football state tournament begins Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2015) — The Kentucky High School Athletic Association state championships in soccer continue this week, while the volleyball state tournament begins Friday.

khsaaIn the Boys soccer state semifinals on Wednesday Covington Catholic (22-2-2) and Fern Creek (20-4-1) meet at 6 p.m. and Bowling Green (19-2-3) and Henry Clay (22-2-1) are scheduled to play at 8 p.m. at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington. The state championship is at 5 p.m. Saturday at Dunbar.

In girls soccer on Thursday at Dunbar Sacred Heart (20-4-1) and Bethlehem (17-7-1) play at 6 p.m., with Owensboro Catholic (24-2) and Lexington Catholic (23-2-2) to follow at 8 p.m. The state championship is at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The volleyball state tournament begins at 11 a.m. Friday at Valley High School in Louisville. The state championship is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday. Teams competing in the tournament are: Mercy; Letcher County Central, McCracken County; Elizabethtown; North Oldham; Raceland; Henry Clay; Southwestern; Allen Central; South Warren; Assumption; Owensboro Catholic; Scott; Henderson County; Notre Dame; and South Laurel.

The field hockey state championships wrapped up last week, with Sacred Heart beating DuPont Manual 3-1 for the championship.

The football state tournament begins Thursday with a pair of games. The rest of the teams play on Friday, with 32 teams from each of the six classes vying for state championships.
