Turfway Park approved for 250 instant racing machines

Lexington, Ky. – Turfway Park, in Erlanger, Ky., has received approval from the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to install 250 historical racing machines to the Thoroughbred racetrack.

Once the machines are installed, Turfway will become the fourth Kentucky location to offer the gambling devices. Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky Downs in Franklin, and Ellis Park in Henderson currently have the machines.

No timetable has been given as to when the instant racing machines would be installed.

Instant racing machines, which are designed to look like traditional slot machines, use historical horse race data to generate the outcomes of races that users can bet on. However, there the data and race information is anonymous.

On Thursday, Turfway Park will begin hosting the facility’s 40th Holiday Meet, which offers live racing on Thursday – Sunday through Dec. 31. Admission and parking are free. The track is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Highlighting the racing schedule are the 30th running of the Holiday Inaugural Stakes on Dec. 5 and the 21st running of the Prairie Bayou Stakes on Dec. 19, each offering a $50,000 purse.
