New distillery and other bourbon projects planned for Nelson County

Projects total nearly $300 million

Frankfort, Ky. – Three bourbon-related projects, totaling nearly $300 million, are coming to Nelson County, according to reports from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority released yesterday.

Jim Beam Brands plans to invest $245 million to build six barrel warehouses over the next 30 years to meet the growing bourbon demand.

Missouri-based alcohol producer and importer Luxco, which owns brands such as Rebel Yell and Ezra Brooks, wants to build a $27 million distillery, which would be the company’s first standalone facility.

According to the KEDFA report, the new Luxco distillery would create 34 jobs. The project received preliminary approval for $1 million in tax incentives.

KEDFA also approved bonds for Jim Beam and The Bardstown Bourbon Company, which announced plans to build a 37,000 s.f. distillery in the summer of 2014.
