Walk With a Doc program adds scenic Bernheim Forest location for 2016

Educational program now in Clermont, near Louisville and Bardstown

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 31, 2016) — Take the time to stay fit and have fun in the great outdoors, while having your health questions answered by a real, live healthcare provider. Three community organizations are teaming up to host a free Walk With a Doc program at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont, near Louisville and Bardstown.

UnknownKentuckyOne Health, Bernheim Forest and the Bullitt County Health Department are joining together to encourage community members to make their health a priority. April 9 will mark the inaugural walk at Bernheim Forest, made up of 14,500 acres, including a 600-acre arboretum, a fishing lake and over 35 miles of hiking trails.

Joseph Oropilla, MD, will lead walkers on an easy and scenic trail, while discussing neurology care. A naturalist from Bernheim Forest will also accompany the walking group and the Bullitt County Health Department will be on hand to answer questions about community resources.

Participants will be able to meet regularly for the walk on the second Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at Bernheim Forest, located off of I-65 at Exit 112, one mile east on Highway 245. The walk includes free admission and no registration is necessary. Visitors must identify themselves as Walk With a Doc participants at the entrance gate. The program will begin at the Visitor Center.

Each month, Walk With a Doc events feature a different physician and focus on a particular health topic. Participants can engage in a heart-healthy walk while having the chance to ask the health professional their medical questions in a comfortable, casual setting.

The walk series is part of a nationwide program that inspires people to improve their health through physical activity while exercising side-by-side with health care providers. Walkers have the opportunity to expand their knowledge on important health topics and receive free health screenings, refreshments and giveaways.

Other Louisville area Walk With a Doc locations and times include Iroquois Park every third Saturday of the month, as well as Shawnee Park every fourth Saturday of the month. Unless otherwise noted, all Walk With a Doc events take place at 10 a.m.
