International Bar-B-Q Festival scheduled for Owensboro May 13-14

Includes two cooking competitions

OWENSBORO, Ky. (April 13, 2016) — The International Bar-B-Q Festival will be held from May 13-14 on the downtown riverfront in Owensboro. The event features Kentucky native John Michael Montgomery at the Owensboro Convention Center on May 13. The concert begins at 7 p.m. More live entertainment will be at the Festival Plaza Stage until midnight.

BBQ-Fest-Logo-w-City“Barbecue is uniquely Owensboro and the festival reflects our culture of special food and music,” said Shannon Wetzel, executive director of Visit Owensboro. “The festival is a fun way to celebrate that heritage.”

The festival includes two cooking events — the Backyard Cook-Off and the Governor’s Cup. The Backyard Cook-Off consists of 50 cooks and the Backyard Cook-Off 40 cooks. Barbecue will be available for purchase after the winners have been announced.

Governor’s Cup teams are expected to cook at least 600 pounds of mutton, 400 pounds of pork, 300 whole chickens and 60 gallons of burgoo.

The festival also includes a 5k run/walk, arts and crafts, festival foods, activities for children and Tyler Wood, a star from the Discovery series “Moonshiners,” will be in appearance.

Admission to the festival is free.
