Brown-Forman ranked top ‘greenest’ beverage alcohol company in U.S.

Honored in Newsweek Green Rankings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 7, 2016) — Lousiville-based Brown-Forman claimed the top spot as the “greenest” beverage alcohol company among U.S. publicly traded companies in the Newsweek Green Rankings. Brown-Forman increased its overall ranking from 69 to 52 and was named among the top three of all beverage companies in the U.S., following Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. and Keurig Green Mountain.

51006-footerThe Newsweek Green Rankings evaluate the largest publicly-traded companies in the U.S. using eight metrics that provide a transparent measurement of overall corporate environmental performance. The 2016 “green score” of each company was based on these components: energy, greenhouse gases, water, waste, green revenue score, sustainability pay link, sustainability board committee, and an audited metrics score.

In 2014 Brown-Forman set new, more aggressive environmental sustainability goals focused on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, sending zero waste to landfill, and increasing the efficiency of water use and wastewater discharges. These goals support our ambitions to be a sustainability leader within our industry as we explore new approaches and technologies, collaborate with our partners, and invest resources to meet these ambitions.
