Former UK star selected for Olympic basketball team

USA won gold in 2008, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 28, 2016) — Former University of Kentucky basketball player DeMarcus Cousins was selected Monday to be a member of the USA Basketball team that will compete this summer in the Olympics in Brazil.

The U.S. won gold in 2008 and 2012 and has won the gold medal in five of the last six Summer Olympics.

Cousins, who plays for the Sacramento Kings, won a gold medal in 2014 at the USA World Cup. This will be his first Olympics.

Cousins played for UK during the 2009-10 season, averaging 15.1 points and 9.8 rebounds, helping lead the Wildcats to the Elite 8.

Last season in Sacramento he averaged 26.9 points and 11.5 rebounds.
