Lt. Governor helps launch Million Women Mentors initiative of Kentucky

Aims to provide one million STEM mentors for girls and women

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2016) — Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton and the Kentucky Commission on Women today hosted the launch event for the Million Women Mentors initiative of Kentucky (MWM-KY). MWM-KY was created to support girls and women in STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) by providing one million STEM mentors.

Hampton will serve as honorary chair of and Dr. Czarena Crofcheck and Kathy Plomin as co-chairs.

“With NASA playing an inspirational role in my childhood and holding a degree in industrial engineering, I know firsthand the powerful opportunities STEM can offer women,” said Hampton.

Other speakers included: Danette Wilder, SealingLife; Dr. Mary Lynne Capilouto, University of Kentucky; Sandra McCain, Lexmark International; Dr. Czarena Crofcheck, UK; and Kate Collins, a physics major at UK.
