Paducah domestic violence shelter Merryman House receives $750,000 to add 12 beds

Also will build new kitchen

PADUCAH, Ky. (Oct. 25, 2016) — Merryman House, a private domestic violence shelter in McCracken County, has received $750,000 in grants to expand the facility from 24 to 36 beds and to build a new commercial kitchen. $500,000 is from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) approved by the Department for Local Government (DLG) and a $250,000 from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA).

Applications for DRA funds, available to a 21 county area of Western Kentucky, are submitted to DLG. Funds are used to help economically-distressed communities leverage other federal, state and local dollars for community development projects that focus on infrastructure development, business development/entrepreneurship and job training services.

The CDBG program provides assistance to communities for use in revitalizing neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing and economic opportunities, providing infrastructure and/or improving community facilities and services.
