First female director of a Kentucky State Veterans Cemetery named

Cemetery to open in 2017

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 2, 2016) — Vaughda Wooten has been named director of Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East in Leslie County. The retired Army First Sergeant is the first female director of a Kentucky State Veterans Cemetery.

Wooten has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Morehead State University as well as service in Saudia Arabia in 1993, experience teaching both Junior and Senior ROTC and multiple supervisory assignments.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East is currently under construction, with opening anticipated in late 2017.

It is Kentucky’s fifth state veterans cemetery, following Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown and Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County.
