Falls City Beer adds new leadership

Local brewery now led by Shane Uttich as President; Drew Johnson rejoins organization as GM

downloadLOUISVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 7, 2016) — Louisville’s beloved historic brewery has recently tapped Louisville native Shane Uttich to serve as President, overseeing brewery strategy and structure. Most recently, Uttich served as Falls City territory manager for Nashville, helping open and grow distribution in the city.

Prior to his time at Falls City, Uttich worked in sales and sales management at Neace Lukens in Louisville. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

Falls City also recently added a General Manager position, filled by Louisville native Drew Johnson. Johnson previously worked for Falls City from 2012-2014 and helped jumpstart the return of Falls City Beer after it had been gone from store shelves and bar taps since 1978.

Johnson was also the original brewer of the Hipster Repellant IPA, a popular bottled beer for Falls City, which today, offers several bottled brews year round, as well as a line of seasonal brews. Johnson will oversee day to day operations of the brewery, including production and sales strategy.

Johnson worked at Liquor Barn for 12 years in various roles, including beer department manager and assistant store manager. Johnson graduated from Denison University in Ohio in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and music.

Falls City launched its largest product-line expansion ever earlier this year, and continues to grow its line of beers.

About Falls City Beer

Falls City Brewing Co. was formed in Louisville in 1905 when local tavern and grocery store owners began their own brewing operation as a way to break a local monopoly on beer production. After decades as a value brand, Falls City closed in 1978, and the brand was later reborn as a craft beer in 2010. Today, the brand produces Falls City Pale Ale, Hipster Repellant IPA, Kentucky Common and a full line of seasonals, available in six-packs and on draft in stores and bars around the region. A variety of other limited-run specialty beers, known as the 7-Barrel Series, are produced and available on draft at Over the 9, the restaurant and bar located at 120 S. 10th St., in the historic Portland neighborhood just west of downtown Louisville, as well as other participating bars and restaurants.
