(Jan. 12, 2017) — A record number of Centre College students are currently studying abroad during CentreTerm 2017, learning about such varied subjects as the science behind the art created by the great French impressionists, theological studies in Israel and post-revolutionary life in Cuba over the decades.

According to Milton Reigelman, director of the Center for Global Citizenship, more than 230 students are studying with Centre faculty in 13 countries this month, including Thailand, New Zealand, Italy, Ghana, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, among others. Many of these classes are interdisciplinary in nature, giving students the opportunity to not only learn in new settings but from unique perspectives.

Including semester-long options, more than 380 Centre students studied abroad during the 2014-15 academic year.

Study abroad opportunities are guaranteed to every Centre student through the Centre Commitment, and every incoming student is also guaranteed a free passport through the Centre’s Your Passport Initiative. Many students take advantage of these opportunities, with 85 percent of Centre students studying abroad at least once and around 30 percent studying abroad two times or more.
