Lexington to halt yard waste collection for winter on Jan. 30

Will be collected on demand

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 20, 2017) — Lexington’s Division of Waste Management will begin its winter collection protocol on Jan. 30. During the protocol period, yard waste containers, bundles and bags will be collected by request only in response to reduced demand for the service during the winter months. Trash and recycling will continue to be collected weekly.

  • Call LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-2255
  • Submit a request online at www.LexingtonKY.gov/LexCall
  • Submit a request using the LexCall app on your Apple or Android device

Weekly yard waste collection will resume no later than the week of March 13. This date may be moved up to best meet Lexington’s collection needs.

“By altering the schedule during the coldest winter months, Lexington is able to save on costs and maintain optimal efficiency while continuing collection of yard waste service on an as-needed basis,” said Tracey Thurman, Director of the Division of Waste Management.

The Haley Pike Waste Management Facility will remain open during the protocol period. Residents of Fayette County may dispose of one pickup load of yard waste at the facility two times per month at no charge. Residents must show proof of residence (such as a driver’s license). The facility is located at 4216 Hedger Lane in Lexington. Facility hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month. The facility is closed on Wednesdays, Sundays and the remaining Saturdays.
