New guide offers information on school performance, accountability

accountability-guide2Helping parents, employers and community leaders gain a better understanding of school performance is the focus of a new citizen’s guide from the Kentucky Chamber Foundation.

Understanding School Performance: A Guide to Accountability in K-12 Education provides information on the process now underway to develop a new accountability system for the state’s schools and how Kentuckians can share their opinions with state education leaders.

It also includes an overview of the requirements for accountability that are included in the federal Every Student Succeeds Act approved by Congress in 2015.

The guide points out that students have made strong gains in Kentucky over the past several years, but the state still has a long way to go to close achievement gaps and ensure that young people are prepared for college and the workforce. “Our school accountability system can help us get much closer to this goal,” the guide notes.
