LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 13, 2012) – Louisville’s popular St. Matthews Farmers’ Market, located in the heart of St Matthews at Beargrass Christian Church, 4100 Shelbyville Road, was named the Urban Market Winner of the Ag Credit AgGenius Awards for the Kentucky Farmers’ Market of the Year Contest 2011at the 2012 Kentucky Fruit and Vegetable Conference and Trade Show in Lexington last week.
“We are thrilled to be the Kentucky Farmers’ Market of the Year – Urban Market Winner,” said Dale Mercker, committee chair. “With over 60 vendors and 2000 visitors each week, we are excited and humbled to earn this honor. Thanks for the support of a great community, wonderful vendors, and of course all of our many volunteers.”
The Kentucky Farmers Market Association created the Kentucky Farmers’ Market of the Year Awards as a part of the Ag Credit AgGenius Awards to honor best practices utilized at farmers’ markets throughout the state. Criteria for determining the award winners included market demographics, structure, rules and grievances, promotion, setup, and customer service. The 2011 Award Winners are:
