Grant will support Prichard Committee’s Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 4, 2017) – A recent $25,000 grant from Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK) will support parent leadership and engagement efforts by the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, an independent, statewide advocacy organization dedicated to the improvement of education for all Kentuckians.
The grant will support operations of the Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership (GCIPL), conceived by late Director Emeritus, Beverly Nickell Raimondo, and launched in 1997 to equip parents to be successful advocates for schools and students.
The Institute’s comprehensive series of workshops explain Kentucky’s public education standards and systems, suggest ways parents can form more productive relationships with teachers and school administrators and build community partnerships that improve achievement for all students.
Since its inception, the program has produced over 2,200 Fellows across Kentucky. Many participants went on to be elected to local school councils and school boards and became appointees to the state Board of Education.
