LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2017) – Blue Grass Airport was recognized as the Corporate Champion of Diversity at the 49th annual Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County Empowerment Dinner. This diversity award is presented to businesses that embrace, celebrate and apply holistic inclusion in its activities, community relations, workplace representation and in the vendors it utilizes.
According to P.G. Peeples, President/CEO at Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County, “The Urban League’s 2017 Corporate Champion of Diversity award is presented to Blue Grass Airport based on its history of promoting a culture of diversity in its organization, especially as demonstrated by its efforts in procurement and its significant increases in its minority spend.”
Blue Grass Airport embraces and includes diverse people in its own workforce and in the companies it hires to complete design and construction projects at the airport. For more than 22 years, Blue Grass Airport has consistently surpassed its disadvantaged business enterprise goals, winning a national award from the Federal Aviation Administration for excellence in this process.
As one of the top employers of minority business in Fayette County, the airport has hosted multiple minority conferences and educational seminars with local partners including small business opportunity seminars, where small businesses learn to collaborate with others on request for proposal submittals. This program was created in an effort to maximize disadvantaged business enterprise representation in airport contracting opportunities. Attendees are provided with an overview of the airport’s construction projects, project timelines, program goals and management, contractor requirements and presentations about disadvantaged business enterprise certification and community resources.
Blue Grass Airport is also a proud sponsor and partner of the Lexington Minority and Women Contractor Training Program. Now in its ninth year, this 10-week program is designed to help minorities and women effectively compete in the contracting industry and covers topics ranging from estimating and bidding to contracting.
