HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Oct. 16, 2017) – Northern Kentucky University co-sponsors a free business planning and intellectual property basics workshop on Oct. 19 with the Kenton County Library. The “Entrepreneur Business Basics 101: Initiate, Engage, Connect” workshop is an introductory session to help entrepreneurs in either starting a new business or fine-tuning their existing small business, while learning about intellectual property.

NKU’s Intellectual Properties Awareness Center and the university’s Small Business Development Center have partnered with the Northern Kentucky Innovation Network to present this workshop. The main session will cover refining a business idea and reviewing intellectual property. Break-out sessions focus on business start-up basics and an introduction to patent and trademarking. There will be an expert panel discussion at the end.

“The World Intellectual Property Organization stresses that intellectual property is an asset that is just as valuable as physical, real property,” said John Schlipp, Steely Library intellectual property librarian. “Such business property is often taken for granted until a competitor infringes on their copyrights, trademarks or patents.”

“Entrepreneur Business Basics 101: Initiate, Engage, Connect” will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. pm Oct. 19 at Kenton County Public Library Covington branch. The workshop is free and open to the general public. For more information, contact John Schlipp at (859) 572-5723 or [email protected].
