DANVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2017) – The Centre College Board of Trustees elected two new members at its fall 2017 meeting. Jennie Peaslack Carlson and Sandra Frazier will be sworn in at the Jan. 2018 meeting in Louisville by board secretary Crit Luallen ’74 and serve six-year terms.
After their election on Friday, Oct. 20, Centre President John A. Roush commented that he looked forward to the “impressive skill sets and breadth of experience” both Carlson and Frazier will bring to their roles as Centre College trustees.
An English major from Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Carlson graduated from Centre in 1982 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She then attended Vanderbilt Law School, earning her J.D. degree in 1985. While there, she served as managing editor for the Vanderbilt Law Review.
Carlson began her career with Taft, Stettinius & Hollister. After six years with the Cincinnati law firm, Carlson moved in 1991 to the field of banking, first serving as senior vice president and deputy general counsel before moving into her present role as chief human resources officer. In all, she has 25 years experience with U.S. Bancorp, starting when it was known as Star Banc and later Firstar.
In addition to overseeing all HR related activities—such as compensation, employee benefits, employee relations and payroll—Carlson serves as a member of the managing committee of U.S. Bancorp.
She will bring to her role as a Centre trustee extensive volunteer leadership experience.
Besides serving on the boards of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, YUSA (the parent organization of YWCAs across the nation) and the Midwest affiliate of the American Heart Association, Carlson has also been involved with Way to Grow, a Minneapolis nonprofit organization devoted to early childhood education.
Louisville native Sandra Frazier has more than two decades of public relations and community/investor relations experience.
After earning her bachelor’s degree at Hollins College and master’s degree at Boston University, she worked for a number of leading companies in Boston.
At PR firm Schneider & Associates, she worked with an impressive list of Fortune 500 clients and assisted with the initial public offering of John Hancock Investments. At FleetBoston Financial Corporation, working in the area of corporate communications, Frazier was involved with efforts related to Fleet’s acquisition of Bank of Boston. At State Street Corporation, she expanded her portfolio by working on corporate communication strategy and global community reinvestment policy.
When Frazier returned to Louisville, she worked first as a PR manager at Doe-Anderson with clients such as Valvoline, Eli Lilly and Louisville Slugger. Eventually, in 2005, she started her own firm, Tandem Public Relations.
Frazier’s professional experience has been invaluable to numerous corporate and nonprofit boards.
In the area of higher education alone, Frazier has been a trustee at Hollins College, and she currently serves on the boards of trustees at Boston University and the University of Louisville. Previously a director of Brown-Forman Corporation, Frazier currently serves as a director of Glenview Trust Company.
