Governor makes appointments to higher education boards

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 25, 2012) – Gov. Steve Beshear has made the following appointments to Kentucky university and higher education agency boards:

Gov. Beshear has appointed Ekumene Makinde Lysonge to the Kentucky State University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2018.

— Ekumene Makinde Lysonge, of Louisville, is an attorney and a vice president with Churchill Downs Inc. The appointment, which is effective Aug. 1, replaces Laura M. Douglas, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Wayne M. Martin to the Morehead State University Board of Regents to serve for the remainder of an unexpired term ending June 30, 2016.

— Wayne M. Martin, of Winchester, is a broadcast television executive with Gray Television Inc. The appointment replaces David V. Hawpe, who has resigned.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed Paul C. Goodpaster to the Morehead State University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2018.

— Paul C. Goodpaster, of Morehead, is a banker with The Citizens Bank.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed Stephen A. Williams to the Murray State University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2018.

— Stephen A. Williams, of Goshen, is president and CEO of Norton Healthcare.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Richard A. Boehne to the Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2018.

— Richard A. Boehne, of Newport, is president and CEO of the E.W. Scripps Co. The appointment replaces Charles H. Brown, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Janie Miller to the Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents to serve for the remainder of an unexpired term ending June 30, 2015:

— Janie Miller, of Shelbyville, is retired. The appointment replaces David B. Sloan, who has resigned.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed William Craig Turner to the Eastern Kentucky Board of Regents to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2018.

— William Craig Turner, of Lexington, is a real estate developer with CRM Companies.

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees to serve for terms expiring June 30, 2018:

— Kelly Sullivan Holland, of Lexington, works in sales for Merck & Co. Inc. The appointment replaces Sandy Patterson, whose term has expired. Holland shall represent university alumni.

— Mark P. Bryant, of Paducah, is an attorney with Bryant Law Center. The appointment replaces Erwin Roberts, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the University of Louisville Board of Regents to serve for terms expiring June 30, 2018:

— Dr. Joseph W. Prather II, of Elizabethtown, is a physician and chief medical officer for Baptist Healthcare System. The appointment replaces Rebecca Jackson, whose term has expired.

— James Steven Wilson, of Louisville, is a farmer and developer, and owner of 21C Museum Hotel. The appointment replaces Jack Chester Porter, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed Ronald D. Butt to the board.

— Ronald D. Butt, of Louisville, is a certified financial planner for ARGI Financial Group.

Gov. Beshear has appointed John W. Ridley to the Western Kentucky University Board of Regents for a term expiring June 30, 2018:

— John W. Ridley, of Bowling Green, is an investment officer and managing director for Wells Fargo Advisors. The appointment replaces James G. Meyer, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Governor’s Council on Postsecondary Education:

— Christopher J. Ryan Jr., of Lexington, is a law student at the University of Kentucky and shall represent students for a term ending June 30, 2013. The appointment replaces Kirby L. O’Donoghue, whose term has expired.

— Thomas Kennedy Helm III, of Louisville, is an attorney with Stites & Harbison. The appointment replaces Jim D. Skaggs, whose term has expired. Helm shall serve for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2017.

— Carolyn M. Ridley, of Bowling Green, is vice president of regulatory affairs for twtelecom. The appointment replaces Joseph S. Weis, whose term has expired. Ridley shall serve for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2017.

— Sherrill Brakmeier Zimmerman, of Prospect, is a retired educator, administrator and coach. The appointment replaces Paul E. Patton, who has resigned. Zimmerman shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2013.

— Arnold Taylor, of Edgewood, is an attorney with O’Hara, Ruberg, Taylor, Sloan & Sergent. The appointment replaces Ellen C. Call, who has resigned. Taylor shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2014.

Gov. Beshear has appointed Barry K. Martin to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents for a term expiring July 21, 2018.

—Barry K. Martin, of Hazard, is CEO of Primary Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky. The appointment replaces Thomas O. Zawacki, whose term has expired.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed Porter G. Peeples to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents for a term expiring July 21, 2018. Peeples, of Lexington, is president and CEO, Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County.

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority:

—Elaine Farris, of Winchester, is superintendent of the Clark County school system. The appointment replaces Lawrence L. Jones, who has resigned. Farris shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term ending July 15, 2014.

— J. Scott Wantland, of Shepherdsville, is an attorney with Wantland Law PLLC. The appointment replaces Carla A. Blanton, who has resigned. Wantland shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term ending Aug. 1, 2014.

Gov. Beshear has reappointed the following to the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority for terms expiring July 15, 2016:

— David L. Allen, of Frankfort, is a government administrator.

— Brent A. McKim, of Louisville, is a Jefferson County Public Schools teacher.
