DUNBOYNE, Ireland (July 31, 2012) — Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech, will host a group of more than 30 Kentucky delegates for a cultural and economic development tour, traveling through Normandy, France, concluding at the Alltech European Bioscience Centre in Dunboyne, Ireland. The tour is in conjunction with the July 2011 announcement of Alltech’s sponsorship of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy.
The President of the Normandy Council and its members, the mayors of Caen and Deauville, as well as the heads of selected French universities and representatives from the regional tourism committee and chamber of commerce will meet with their Kentucky counterparts during this mission. Key players from the equine industry and the organizing committee of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 — including Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear; Marcheta Sparrow, Secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet; and Secretary Larry Hayes of the Cabinet for Economic Development — also will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with equestrian leaders during a series of workshops hosted by the Normandy council. These workshops will cover topics such as tourism, economic development and information on the 2014 World Equestrian Games.
The tour will begin on Wednesday and will include stops at prominent and culturally distinguished locations throughout Deauville and Caen, both of which are in the Basse-Normandie region of France. The mission will conclude with a stop in Dunboyne, Ireland, where guests will tour Alltech’s European Headquarters and get a first glimpse at the building’s progressing expansion.
The equine industry provides a strong link between Ireland, Caen, France and Lexington, Ky., host city of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Each community is renowned for top-quality horse breeding programs and elite equestrian competition. The economic impact is also significant in each region.
“The opportunity to bring together Normandy’s most influential leaders with an extraordinary delegation from Kentucky is not only important to Kentucky’s burgeoning relationship with France, but is imperative to the success of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy and the equine industry,” Lyons said. “Showcasing Ireland during this tour will also strengthen the connection between France, the USA and the third largest breeder of thoroughbreds in the world, Ireland.”
