Releases 1999 New Manufacturers List The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development has issued its list of manufacturing companies that located in the Commonwealth in 1999. The diverse group of companies represents an equally diverse group of products. The new Kentucky-made products range from hams and t-shirts to race car parts and houseboats. A total of 68 manufacturers started operations in Kentucky last year, representing an investment of $565.75 million and the creation of 5,675 new jobs. The Cabinet also issued its list of Expanded Manufacturing Firms. In 1999, a total of 559 manufacturers expanded operations in Kentucky. This represented an investment of more than $2.48 billion and the creation of 28,756 jobs. The list published in this issue of The Lane Report only reports those manufacturers investing $2 million or more in expanding operations. The investment amount for some expanding manufacturers has still not been determined and those companies were excluded from the list. Some of those, such as Sykes Enterprises, almost certainly would have qualified for mention had the final investment figures been calculated.
