Gov. Bevin makes appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 7, 2018) – Gov. Matt Bevin has made the following appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions:

Charles Davidson has been appointed as a member of the Reclamation Guaranty Fund Commission.  

  • Charles Davidson, of Hazard, is the general manager of Pine Branch Mining, LLC. He will represent permittees which participate in the fund and have mined and sold over one million tons but less than five million tons of coal and serve for a term expiring July 1, 2022.  

The Kentucky Reclamation Guaranty Commission is comprised of seven members. Appointed by the Governor, the Commission includes the Secretary of the Energy and Environment Cabinet along with three members selected from the coal industry—two members representing the banking and surety industries with knowledge of the coal industry, and a certified public accountant.

Barbara Jeanne Hill and Dan Miller have been appointed as members of the State Board for the Certification of Librarians.  

  • Barbara Jeanne Hill, of Union, is a retired educator. She will represent public library trustees and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2021; and 
  • Dan Miller, of Georgetown, is the president and senior consultant of Miller Consulting Group. He will represent public library trustees and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022.  

The State Board for the Certification of Librarians consists of five gubernatorial appointees. The Board is charged with evaluating and approving the qualifications of applicants for licensure as certified librarians within the Commonwealth.

Lloyd R. Cress, Jr. and John M. Dix have been appointed as members of the Kentucky Water Resources Board. 

  • Lloyd R. Cress, Jr., of Lexington, is an attorney. He will represent the Kentucky League of Cities and serve for a term expiring July 15, 2022; and 
  • John M. Dix, of Bowling Green, is general manager of the Warren County Water District. He will represent the Kentucky Rural Water Association and serve for a term expiring July 15, 2022.  

The Water Resources Board is comprised of 11 members from the Energy and Environment Cabinet, Department of Agriculture, and the University of Kentucky, as well as representatives from local governments, conservation districts, rural water, and the business sector.  The Board addresses water resource challenges affecting agriculture and rural industries.

Susanne Lee Shaffar, Melanie Denise Eaton, Kenneth William Urlage, and Tuyen T. Tran have been appointed as members of the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Long-Term Care Administrators.  

  • Susanne Lee Shaffar, of Lexington, is an attorney, She will represent citizens at-large and serve for a term expiring Jan. 12, 2021; and 
  • Melanie Denise Eaton, of Adairville, is a faculty member and part-time instructor for the Department of Public Health at Western Kentucky University. She will represent educators in the field of allied health services and serve for a term expiring Jan. 12, 2021; and 
  • Kenneth William Urlage, of Alexandria, is administrator of the River Valley Nursing Home. He will represent the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities and serve for a term expiring Jan. 12, 2022; and 
  • Dr. Tuyen T. Tran, of Versailles, is a physician. He will represent the Kentucky Medical Association and serve for a term expiring Jan. 12, 2022.  

The Kentucky Board of Licensure for Long-term Care Administrators consists of 10 members, nine of whom are appointed by the Governor. The Board develops, imposes, and enforces standards which must be met by individuals in order receive a license as a nursing home administrator.

Kristin A. Stuebs, Mary Quinn Ramer, Nancy Cox and Porter G. Peeples, Sr. have been appointed as members of the Kentucky Horse Park Commission.  

  • Kristin A. Stuebs, of Nicholasville, is a horse industry professional. She will serve for a term expiring May 24, 2022; and 
  • Mary Quinn Ramer, of Lexington, is hospitality executive for Visit Lex. She will serve for a term expiring May 24, 2022; and 
  • Nancy Cox, of Lexington, is an administrator for the University of Kentucky. She will serve for a term expiring May 24, 2022; and 
  • Porter G. Peeples, Sr., of Lexington, is president of the Lexington Urban League. He will serve for a term expiring May 24, 2022.  

The Kentucky Horse Park Commission is made up of 15 gubernatorial appointees. The Kentucky Horse Park Commission is charged with providing broad management expertise and direction in the operation of the Kentucky Horse Park as well as representing the diverse interests of the Kentucky horse industry.
