Morgan & Pottinger change firm name

John McGarvey

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Morgan & Pottinger announced Monday that the firm name is changing to Morgan Pottinger McGarvey. The new name honors attorney John McGarvey and his contributions to the firm, legal community and banking industry.

This is the first time the name has changed in the firm’s nearly 45-year history.

McGarvey joined Morgan & Pottinger on Jan. 1, 1975, shortly after the firm was founded in Louisville in 1974. He is a member of numerous legal organizations, including multiple Uniform Commercial Code task forces and advisory committees. He has held a position on the UCC’s Permanent Editorial Board since 2015.

“We’re adding McGarvey to the firm name in appreciation of John’s dedication to both the firm and our clients over the years,” said Managing Director Mindy Sunderland. “We are a better firm because of John and his leadership, and it’s a privilege to recognize him in this way.”

McGarvey is also an adjunct secured transactions professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law. He has taught hundreds of seminars on legal issues involving financial institutions and other lenders.

A new logo accompanies the name change and signifies a new chapter for Morgan Pottinger McGarvey. The firm has long been known for banking and finance law, creditor’s rights and real estate law. As new attorneys have joined the firm in recent years, Morgan Pottinger McGarvey has expanded its focus to include practice areas such as tax and administrative law, personal injury, family law, employment law and trust and estates.

“We’ve grown our legal practice to meet not only the needs of our institutional clients,” said Sunderland, “but also the personal legal needs of the people within those institutions.”
