Murray State now recruiting students for MBA cohort in Madisonville

MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University is now recruiting students for an accelerated Master of Business Administration (MBA) cohort that begins in January 2019 on the University’s regional campus in Madisonville.

The program is ideal for individuals looking to advance their careers and further their knowledge of business concepts. With a small classroom environment led by distinguished Murray State faculty and a flexible schedule, students in the new MBA cohort will graduate together in 18 months with the skills and knowledge to succeed in leadership roles.

“The MBA cohort program provides an excellent way for working professionals to continue their education,” said Dan Lavit, executive director of the Center for Adult and Regional Education at Murray State. “The program offers value and accessibility right here in Madisonville.”

To accommodate the needs of working professionals, students in this accelerated MBA program take one course at a time. Each course spans five weekends with three weekends consisting of face-to-face meetings on the Madisonville campus and two weekends of online instruction.

During their time in the program, students will further their knowledge in a number of subject areas, including corporate finance, marketing planning, accounting for decision-making, strategic planning and much more. Students will also gain soft-skills in a number of key areas, such as self-discipline, strategic thinking, time management and effective communication.

It is not necessary for interested students to have an undergraduate degree in business prior to joining the MBA cohort as they will “get up to speed” in business concepts through a special foundations course.

“Earning your MBA from Murray State instructors who come to you in Madisonville is a very rare opportunity,” said Dr. Joy Roach Humphreys, director of the MSU-Madisonville MBA program and assistant dean for the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business. “Not only will Murray State’s MBA program prepare you as a competent and effective leader and business professional, but you will have fun with your student group as you work your way toward earning your MBA.”

Humphreys also added that the University’s MBA and related business programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which is the “gold standard in business education,” she said, noting that “only 5 percent of business schools worldwide have earned this distinction.”

An advising day for students interested in joining the MBA cohort will take place Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. on the MSU-Madisonville Regional Campus in the Steve Beshear Center for Postsecondary Education.
