Nylene breaks ground on $8M expansion project in Henderson

Ground was officially turned on Nov. 13 for Nylene Kentucky

HENDERSON, Ky. — Nylene, a producer of specialty nylon resins in Henderson, along with Kyndle hosted a groundbreaking on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The groundbreaking was a direct result of the previously announced expansion project that occurred in 2016 and is projected to add 40 new jobs and over $8 million in investment to its equipment and building. The expansion is expected to double the existing square footage by adding 80,000 square foot building, capacity and employment. Construction is set to begin on Nov. 19 and completed by July 2019.

Nylene makes specialty nylon homopolymer and copolymer resins with a wide range of molecular weights and additive packages for a variety of end-use industries. The facility has been producing Nylon at its Henderson location for over 60 years beginning in 1957. Since then, the site has developed a solid reputation for quality and specialty products and gained more capabilities for higher molecular weights, in addition to polymerization and compounding capabilities.

Over two years Nylene has been working to get this project to the point of breaking ground.  Nylene has been able to get to this point with the great assistance provided by the following partners: Kyndle Economic Development, State of Kentucky, Henderson County government, City of Henderson, Green River Area Development District (GRADD) and Delta Regional Authority (DRA). Herb Rawlings, general manager, stated there were numerous reasons why Nylene chose to expand in Henderson.

“The decision to expand Nylene in Henderson was because of the interaction with their existing plant in Henderson, better business climate, low tax burden, energy costs among the lowest in the country, highly skilled labor market (especially for plastic), and location central to customer base (lower cost logistics),” Rawlings said. “This project will vastly expand our compounding capacity and capability.  We will be able to compound a wide selection of nylon resins, and compounded additives.  We will be able to offer a full array of resins and properties to the industries we serve.”

“I know how hard the leadership and staff at Nylene have worked on this project over the last two years, so it’s very satisfying to see it finally get to the point where the company can break ground”, said Brad Schneider, Henderson County judge executive. “Nylene has been, and will be, a significant presence in Henderson County’s business community and I really appreciate both its investment here and its intention to hire even more people. I appreciate the assistance Kyndle Economic Development gave Nylene and Henderson County government was honored to play a role in helping the company make the decision to expand here. Congratulations to Nylene!”

We are so happy with the Nylene expansion and the increased local employment opportunity it brings,” said Henderson Mayor Steve Austin. “Nylene is a good, dependable local company that we are proud to have in Henderson.  It is so satisfying when the City of Henderson can partner with our other interested local entities such as Henderson County and Kyndle Economic Development to complete a project.”

“This project has been in the making for two years,” said Tony Iriti, CEO of Kyndle. “Thanks to the perseverance of Herb Rawlings, Nylene general manager and our Economic Development staff Donna Crooks and Whitney Risley, the project is now a reality.  Kyndle is glad to see that Nylene is able to make this expansion project a reality to further strengthen their presence in the Kyndle region.”
