Keeneland catalogues 167 horses for April 9 sale

HIP 2865, a colt by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver was Wednesday’s top buy at $370,000 to Alex and JoAnn Lieblong at Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A total of 167 horses, including 73 juveniles and 94 horses of racing age, are cataloged for Keeneland’s April Sale, to be held Tuesday, April 9, at 2 p.m. ET.

Two 3-year-old fillies, Crafty’s Dream and Sass Machine, were recent supplements to the April Sale.

Crafty’s Dream, by Bodemeister, was a two-time winner last year at 2. At 3, she finished second in the Beyond the Wire Stakes and third in the Wide Country Stakes, both at Laurel. Crafty’s Dream is consigned by Buckland Sales (Zach Madden), agent.

Sass Machine was a winner at 2, and placed in an allowance race at Santa Anita earlier this year. The daughter of Orb is consigned by Timber Town (Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sweezy), agent.

Also recently supplemented is a 2-year-old filly by Will Take Charge who is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Big Trouble and stakes-placed Silver Lining John and Silver Sidney. She is consigned by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent.

Keeneland will host a preview day featuring breezes by cataloged 2-year-olds over both the dirt track and turf course on Monday, April 8, beginning at 11 a.m. Live coverage of the works will be streamed on Keeneland.com. Keeneland held the April Sale from 1993-2014. The last edition of the April Sale in 2014 produced champions Lady Eli and Roy H. Graduates of the high-quality, boutique auction include six classic winners: Belmont (G1) winner Palace Malice; Preakness (G1) winner and champion Lookin At Lucky; Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness winner and champion Big Brown; Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner and champion Thunder Gulch; and Kentucky Oaks (G1) winners Keeper Hill and Gal in a Ruckus.
