Beatles’ White Album tribute, Lyle Lovett, Styx among artists appearing at Norton Center this fall

DANVILLE, Ky. — Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts announced its 2019-20 season of live performances Wednesday. Along with a boldly diverse lineup of internationally-acclaimed artists, patrons can expect new adventurous events and series subscription options with deeper discounts and more flexibility.

“The Norton Center has always been a community gathering place,” said Steve Hoffman, Norton Center executive director. “It’s a beautiful, exciting destination for people to socialize and connect with new friends and neighbors.

“We designed the new 2019-20 season as a celebration of this community. It’s a nod to our rich history and the patrons, sponsors, students, staff and businesses who have made the Norton Center what it is today—a vibrant example of community creativity and collaboration.”

The season kicks off on Sept. 29, with the star-studded It Was Fifty Years Ago Today – A Tribute to the Beatles White Album, performed by Todd Rundgren; Christopher Cross; Micky Dolenz, of The Monkees; Jason Scheff, of Chicago; and Joey Molland, of Badfinger.

Lyle Lovett

Singer-storyteller Lyle Lovett returns on October 9, followed by the multimegamillion-selling rock band, Styx on October 12. Aquila Theatre brings George Orwell’s cautionary tale, 1984, to the stage on October 26. On January 26, one of the world’s predominant ballet companies, the Shanghai Ballet, showcases the glamour of Chinese dance in their storybook performance of The Butterfly Lovers.

Styx

The Chieftains say their Irish goodbyes on February 15, and the national touring Broadway musical, Finding Neverland debuts on February 19. On May 10, celebrate Mother’s Day with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as they perform Mozart’s Paris with renowned French Conductor Louis Langrée.

“We can’t wait to bring these remarkable artists to Danville,” Hoffman said. “I encourage everyone who enjoys live entertainment to act early and take advantage of the deep ticket discounts we offer through our subscription program.”

“Series subscribers receive the best ticket prices of the season – saving up to 25 percent – along with the best seat selection before tickets go on sale to the general public. They also get first access to artist meet and greets, special discounts throughout the season, and exceptional concierge services.”

This season, subscribers are encouraged to try the adventurous new Tastemaker Series, with six pre-selected performances paired with lively event socials, or the flexible Create-Your-Own Series, with the opportunity to save when you purchase three or more shows.

“Our community is full of adventurous risk-takers who seek out exciting new arts experiences,” Hoffman said. “These vibrant ‘tastemakers’ inspired us to curate a special series featuring six thrilling artists from around the world, paired with samplings of our area’s finest spirits, freshest foods, and most colorful characters.”
