Kentucky commissioner appointed to pivotal federal advisory committee

Nancy Atkins

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky Department of Insurance Commissioner Nancy Atkins was appointed on Aug. 28, 2019 by the U.S. Treasury Department to serve on the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance (FACI), and on Monday attended her first Committee meeting in Washington D.C.

FACI, established in 2011, provides state based regulation advice and recommendations to assist the Federal Insurance Office (FIO) in performing its duties. FACI members represent a cross-section of the insurance ecosystem, providing an opportunity for the office to receive input from the industry, regulators, consumers, academia, and other interested stakeholders.

“I am honored to be appointed to the FACI and look forward to serving alongside talented insurance professionals, especially my fellow state regulators,” said Atkins. “It is imperative that states remain at the forefront of insurance governance issues by staying engaged, vocal, and vigilant as we share our unique expertise with our Federal counterparts. My hope is that I can use my experience to make meaningful contributions to the essential dialogue surrounding insurance issues facing consumers in Kentucky and across the country,” said Commissioner Atkins.

Atkins will also serve on the Availability of Insurance Products Subcommittee, which was formed to focus on study and analysis of the challenges presented by long-term care insurance, retirement security, insurtech, and big data.

Atkins’ term expires Dec. 31, 2021. To learn more about FACI, visit https://www.treasury.gov/initiatives/fio/Pages/faci.aspx.
